Book & Paper Conservation

Our workshop uses the highest quality materials and has a tremendous attention to detail. When performing conservation work, we carefully execute treatments to retain as much of the original as possible. The supplies we use are archival, non-acidic and natural materials. We also maintain the proper pH when washing items and of our adhesives. When lining and mending, we use the finest Japanese tissues and we predominately use cooked Belgian rice starch paste. For cover hinging, we generally use Korean hanji paper, airplane linen or cotton. We are able to disassemble and wash entire books, or we can employ various dry cleaning methods. If you have an item that is damaged, has tears, or is in need of cleaning, we would be happy to advise you on treatments for its proper conservation.
